Peru – May 21-30, 2009

Author: eriks

Our trip to Peru in May was a success. All of our goals were met and we had some pleasant God-honoring surprises.

Our travel was guarded by the Lord and we arrived safely in country after 3 days of planes and trucks. We were able to meet with our brothers and sisters in Christ in Inucyo each evening and share our Bible Stories with them. Our discussion was the best I had ever seen in my 6 years of going. We saw 3 people receive Christ in Incuyo and one accept Jesus in Pullo. We also held a baptism service in some Hot Springs outside of Chumpi where 4 ladies shared in the ordinance of public baptism as a sign of obedience to Jesus Christ and His Word. One of our team members desired to share in baptism as well. Tina, who grew up in Canada as a Catholic, accepted Christ in her transition to a college-student at Charleston Southern, but had never followed that decision with baptism. Although we were not able to perform the baptism in Peru due to time and location constraints, we celebrated the following Sunday morning with our church family. What a great exclaimation point on a blessed trip.

Our brothers Pedro in Pullo, and Yulbert in Coracora were encouraged by our visit. Although we were not able to stay long at either place, God showed His hand. In Pullo, we shared Christ with a young single-mother, Jenny, who operated the internet-cafe. She accecpted Christ and was able to meet Pedro, who welcomed her with open arms, literally, to their fellowship. It was a sweet time. While passing through Coracora on the way home, we were able to wake Yulbert up and spend a few minutes with him. He shared some needs and encouraged us to bring more supplies (bibles, discipleship materials, etc.) for he and Pedro to use while in Pullo and nearby town of Pinaua. Yulbert also asked for a sleeping bag so when he drives his motorcyle to Pullo on Saturday nights, he can spend the night and stay warm. We will be able to take something to him on our next trip in July. Also, we are hoping to see some special ceremonies take place in Pullo. Pedro and Ignacia have expressed their need to be married so they can accept the leadership role that God has for them. It is hard for them to get married due to lost birth documents and legalities, however, God can recognize them as husband and wife according to their promises together. We are trying to get Pastor Jose, from Nazca, to be able to go and perform the wedding and do their baptism in July. Keep that scheduling in your prayers.

Our team arrived home safely, changed for the glory of God. We fasted one day, prayer walked, and sought out divine appointments througout our day and saw our God answer those prayers. We even spent some time each day praying together, some as popcorn prayers. These new experiences of our faith was great for our team, many had not experienced them before. My prayer as leader, was to open our eyes, so we can experience God in a greater way. I know that was and is still being answered.

We made it!  We are in Pictou! Had a divine appointment this morning in Moncton. The young lady who took care of the continental breakast is a Christian, and from Pictou.  We had a good time sharing and she confirmed some of the things we know about the spiritual atmosphere here.

We are revamping the housing, for the better (more about that later). Keep praying, we’ll be getting started on Monday checking out the community.

It’s an old town with a lot of history. I’ll post some pictures as soon as i can.

We go over to Atogonish tomorrow to worship at Grace Community Church, where we’ll be doing the VBS.
