We’re home.  God called us to Pictou to work with Him in planting a new Church.  He did it. Journey Community Church – Pictou is a reality and is continuing to meet at the maritime Oddfellows Home on Sunday afternoons.  The ministry is continuing under the leadership of Brian Roberts  Here is a copy of his email to others asking for their help and outlining his plans for the near future;

As many of you know, I am a latecomer in the Pictou work. I know many of you have been praying for and/or working in Pictou for some time, and I share your desire to see an Evangelical church take root in Pictou. I hope all of you continue to keep Pictou in your prayers. There is such a great opportunity and need.

I wanted to let everyone know what we are planning. Over the next week, we would like to contact every adult that filled out a contact card at the event last week and invite them to an eight week study “Stranger on the Road to Emmaus”. This study takes a holistic view from creation to the cross, presenting a Gospel message. The study is planned to be informal with free materials, coffee, and timbits. As well, we want anyone who comes to feel both welcome and be able to ask any question. To come as they are.

So what I am looking for is some help. I am looking for others who have a burden to come along side and continue to help this ministry through the next few months – seeing where God is leading. I am looking for:

1. People willing to call the adults from the contact cards, inviting them to the study.

2. People who would be willing to come out and be part of the study. Ideally, I would love to find two or three Christian families that are close to Pictou that would be willing to make this a mission field for eight weeks, on top of others coming and going to encourage and help.

3. People willing to contact other past leads in Pictou and invite them out.

4. There may be an opportunity for someone to do some youth ministry at the same time as the study. I currently have a 10, 12, and 15 year olds that plan on coming.

Please let me know you thoughts, what is on your heart to help, as well as anyone you may know in or outside your churches who would be able to come along side.

Yours in Christ,

Brian

Keep praying for Pictou…

BBQ, what a great ending!

Author: masonvt

God did it again. He gave us a perfect day for our BBQ, it was sunny, not too hot, and a nice breeze. We had some nice shade trees to set up under.

The bounce house guy got here around 1:30 and got set up. The first team, from Lexington, arrived about 2:00 pm. They had some time to go exploring and talk to people and hand out the rest of the fliers.

The BBQ team got here about 3:00 and began to set up. People began to arrive about 3:30. We kept waiting for the third team to come. Before long we had lots of kids waiting for the bounce house. We began to register everyone, and more kept coming.

We had a table set up to do crafts, another for face painting. We had drawings for 5 book bags filled with schools supplies that the Lexington team brought. We gave away the VBS t-shirts that Old Fort left. We had enough school supplies so that all the children got a packet. We gave away the VBS Bibles, and the Bibles that Fellowship of Oakbrook gave us.

The BBQ team was from Greenwood SC. They had a lady with them that did professional clowning and a magic show and presented the gospel. We had two guys from the church in Antigonish playing guitars and singing. The Lexington team registered people, did the crafts, face painting and did the balloons figures.

We finally heard from the Bluffton team. They were stuck in a traffic jam from a bad accident and were not able to get here until it was over. They had the syrup for the sno-cone machine but at least we could do without that. We felt bad they had missed all the fun and so did they, but at least they were ok.

The team from Greenwood had a videographer with them taping everything to promote more people in South Carolina getting involved in the ministry in Nova Scotia. We are going to try and get a copy to promote it in our Association. (This may be also shown a SC State Convention.) He also interviewed Mason.

We think all total we must have had more than 150 adults and children show up, we know everyone didn’t register. The registeration cards will be used to contact people in the area about the church, at least all these people know about Journey Community Church – Pictou.

We had several show interest in the church, most do not know what a Baptist Church is. Several people we had chance to share the Lord with and pray for them. Continue to pray for the harvest. We even had the Mayor attend, he was very impressed by what we had done, and invited us back again. The food was great, everyone commented on how much they enjoyed the pulled pork and homemade baked beans with pork. Several wanted the receipt. Everyone thought it was a great success.

The icing on the cake was a fender bender. (literally). As we were pulling out of our drievway to go eat with they teams. There was a small Miata, parked across the street and Mason didn’t see him, and backed into his front fender. We didn’t know where the owner was so we left him a note. We were upset at this happening to end a wonderful day. BUT! it was a blessing in disguise.

When we got back the car was gone, we came inside, and there was a note for us it said “Hi, I’m the owner of the red Miata, you backed into. You can leave me a message at —– I’m returning to Ontario next week, so I’d like to get something done ASAP. Thank you for your note. I’m a Pastor, I was hoping to meet whoever is starting a new church in Pictou. God is a Work! Thanks Doug Campbell”.

We were flabergasted, as I think he was that someone admitted to doing this, when he would have never known if we hadn’t. When he walked over to our place, the door wasn’t locked and the people who had been here when we left left it open, he saw our Bibles, then he knew we were Christians and this wasn’t just a happenstance.

This Morning he and his brother-in-law. who is also a pastor’ came by and we had a great time sharing with them. He is pastoring in Ontario, but knows some of the same people we have met here, in fact he used to pastor the church we go to on Sunday in New Glasgow. He is from there. He has been burdened for Pictou and really felt God wanted a church started here several years ago but the group he is with does not start churches. This is why he was very interested in knowing more about us and the SCBC and CNBC. We gave him names of people to talk to. We feel this was God’s way of putting us together with him and to show us he wants a church here, and it will be accomplished.

We also talked to a young man from Halifax who Chad had called about. He idoes street evangelism and will coming up here on Sunday to do the Bible study. Pray for him. His name is Brian Roberts.

PRAISE THE LORD, FOR HE DOES ALL THINGS GOOD!.
