Tall Ships

Author: masonvt

Tuesday the tall ships sailed into Pictou, there were a lot of visitors in town.  We walked down to the docks to see them, but  decided to wait until Wednesday to go on them.  There are seven of them here.

Mason got a call from Mark Puckett who is the pastor of  Kings Way Christian Fellowship, Montague, Prince Edward Island.  He coordinates the work in the Maritimes, the Eastern Provinces of Canada. Mason needed to debrief with him. We made arrangements to go over and see them after seeing the tall ships.

Wednesday – we got down to the docks about 9:30, and it was a good day to go.  On our way down we put fliers up about the BBQ. It was all very interesting.  We only paid five dollars to go on all the ships.

We caught the PEI ferry at 12:30, met Mark and his wife Linda.  and took a tour of some of the places we hadn’t seen when we went the first time.

Mark and Mason rode together, and Linda and I, so we had lots of time to share.  They are originally from Murfreesboro Tennessee. He had brought a team of volunteers to PEI, and had come back several times.  The church pastor left and they asked him to come and be their pastor.  Their first thought was, oh we can’t do that, we have three children,  family, friends here, etc.  But God opened doors for them and they have been here since 2004.  One daughter did not come as she was 19 and getting married, the other two came, when the next daughter turned 18 she went back to Tenn. Their son is younger and he adjusted and really loves it here, he is 18 now and will probably stay, he is a big help to them, helps with the youth, and childrens’ church.  They run about 45.  The church was formerly a two story hardware store.  The owner wanted to sell it as he has built a bigger place down the street.  The people who had started the church needed a bigger place to meet, and decided to ask if he would donate the building to the ministry.  He did not go to the church, but he gave them the church free and clear  and they have a 99 year lease on the parking lot. God does provide.

We enjoyed our time with them.  The funny thing is, we had stopped in the town where their church is located when the Hunts and Baileys were here, but did not know his church was there.  That was the place we had lunch out on the veranda.  Mason and I went back there for supper.

Thursday, had the Ladies Bible study here at our place and got to see the tall ships leaving town.  Next week will be our last meeting.  The time has gone past so quickly.  Mason is trying to finish up painting at Carolyn’s,   so far the weather is holding out.  It was very windy this morning, but is better this afternoon.  Found out the Hunts arrived back in Ohio safely yesterday.

Side note: please pray for our son Bud, and son-in-law Glen, both are waiting to here about job interviews.

Video of two of the Tall Ships leaving Pictou Harbor (only three were in the “parade”, but my battery died before I got the third).

Tall Ships

Monday-

We went to our first meeting of the new  Journey Community Church -  Pictou yesterday and waited with anticipation for the first arrivals.  We prayed for a hundred, but would be happy to have one.  God showed me (Chris) the other day the importance of the one to Jesus, he spoke to the crowds, but there was always one that was singled out to be ministered to by him. The little boy with the five loaves and two fishes, the woman at the well, Zaccheus.  Well he didn’t bring a hundred, but he did bring 4, the family that had expressed interest at our Canada Day cookout.

Please pray for them, the Halfpenny family,  they left before we were through.  They brought two of the children with them.  I had something planned for the children and when I invited them over to the table the eight year old got very upset, her mother brought her over but she started crying and wouldn’t leave her mother so finally she took her out.  The younger stayed and I read a Bible story with her and we did a craft.  She wanted to go where her mother and sister were so I took her then went back to the Bible study.  The father then excused himself to find them.  I went to find them all after a while and saw them getting in their car.  I was devastated.  We didn’t know what had happened, so we spent time in prayer.  We were very glad to have our friends the Hun’s there and the Burnetts, who are here to encourage and help the churches in the area.

When we got home, Paul the dad came over and apologized. They were not sure why the little girl got upset, but said they would be back, so we felt much encouraged.  Pray for Grace, the 8 year old.

Mason has been asked to share with the church in New Glassgow, what we have been doing, and bring the evening message next Sunday.  This church has been a great encouragement to us.  They are Independent Baptist.

Our friends the Hunts left this morning. Wwe were sad to see them leave, we enjoyed being able to spend time with them and their help, and prayers. Please pray for a safe journey as they are going back to Ohio for a wedding before they head home.
