HAITI IN THE AFTERMATH

written by masonvt

There have been a number of questions about Haiti, most with a desire to reach out, even asking when we are going.

Be patient – there will be opportunities, but they will not be immediate. The total relief process ( if it can ever be total) will probably be years in duration.

This is not a case where we can just put a team together, pack up and go. Anything we want to do on site, in person, will of necessity be through our Southern and South Carolina Baptist Disaster Relief organizations. To be a part of this you must receive training and certification through the State Convention. The next training is just weeks away, March 5&6, in Anderson, SC. On Sunday we’ll be signing up anyone interested in attending.

Follow this link for information about the training as well as copies of articles and information from the SBC, South Carolina, Florida and Miami Baptists.

Anyone interested in knowing more please contact me by phone @ 843-814-9406 or email mvantassel@oldfortbaptist.org.

New Era – continued…

written by masonvt

The first of the three North American locales I want to share is the one where we have already had a presence – Nova Scotia.  This past summer 17 from Old Fort and 2 friends from Florida spent time ministering in Pictou, Antigonish and New Glasgow.

So far for 2010 we have 4 requests for teams of anywhere from 8 to 15 to do VBS, evangelistic outreach and participate in Sunday services on Cape Breton island (probably the most beautiful area of Nova Scotia).  Team members will stay in the homes of church members.  Two teams of 6-8 have been requested to go back to Antigonish to do door-to-door surveys and other evangelism.

Again, if you are interested or want more information, respond by comment on this blog or Facebook or email me.

North America:  Nova Scotia

If you want to know what ministry in SC will be like in 20 years, come to Nova Scotia today.  A postmodern culture that sees little revelence in the church, Nova Scotia is in desperate need of Bible-based, evangelistic churches.  By 2020, the Canadian National Baptist Convention has a goal to see 50 healthy, cooperating, reproducing churches among the one million people of Nova Scotia (there are currently 7).

Volunteers are needed to partner in a wide variety of outreach activities to reach Nova Scotians with the Gospel.  Block parties, children’s ministries, servant evangelism, campus ministries, prayerwalking, leadership training, pastor and wives retreats, and long-term volunteers are just some of the many ways used to reach out in this area.

Pray about how you and your church can be a part of this critical evangelistic enterprise.
